Tirupur: While the country has been observing 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by holding events, campaigns, rallies and speeches, the students of Tirupur Panchayat Union Middle School chose to make the day more meaningful by attempting a world record.

Living upto the inspiring words of Gandhi, which says "Knowledge gained through experience is far superior and many times more useful than bookish knowledge", over 19 students of the school learnt the art of making handicrafts from one of their teacher and attempted a Guinness record by creating beautiful handicrafts continuosuly for 10 hours.
The students thank Murugeswari, a government school teacher who has been personally spent time with the students, trained and motivated them to learn handicrafts.
Murugeswari has been holding handicrafts events to government students and private school students. On September 29, a similar handicraft event was held at Thirumurugan Poondi Government school.
In a bid to hold a place in 'Kalam book of records', around 19 students of Panchayat Middle School on Karuvellampalayam road in Tirupur worked together for 10 hours to create handicrafts to secure a place in the Kalam Book of Records.
The students made a variety of spectacular handicrafts with paper, vegetables, fruits, greens, cereals sourced from their homes.
The students are hopeful that their efforts would be recognized as a world record.
