Coimbatore: Even as the controversy over illegal banners in Tamil Nadu is still brewing, the Tamil Nadu government has requested the Madras High court to seek permission to erect banners to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping for the summit at Mamallapuram near Chennai on October 11 and 12.
Condemning the State's request to the high court, Kamal Hassan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiam had tweeted requesting the PMO to disapprove erecting flex banners.
"While Thamizh Nadu and Thamizhians are struggling to cope up with the loss of Shubasri's death, the Thamizh Nadu Government has approached the courts to obtain permission to erect your banners.
If you act as a pioneer in taking the first step to put an end to this haphazard banner culture, it will reflect your concern towards the sentiments of Thamizhians, and that in itself will garner you the greatest publicity possible. Jai Hind!", the actor tweeted.
The recent death of a 23-year-old techie had stirred controversy after an illegal hoarding fell on her while she was riding her two-wheeler on the road and killed her on the spot.
Now, even after much outrage, the Tamil Nadu government is ready to move Madras High Court to seek permission to erect banners welcoming dignitaries during the informal summit.
