Coimbatore : To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Coimbatore Corporation today organised “plogging“ event (jogging + picking waste) at VOC grounds today morning.
Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar flagged off the plog run in which more than 800 college students and members of the public participated.
Aligning with Government of India’s Swachhata Hi Sewa, Cleanliness is Service mission which was flagged off by PM, Narendra Modi on September 15, the CCMC had organised this event to create awareness on keeping the city clean.
Flagging of the event, CCMC Commissioner urged the participants to help the civic body in maintaining cleanliness.
Participants started their 2.7 km jog/ walk from VOC ground to RS. Puram Kalaiarangam. On their way, they picked up plastic waste while walking/ jogging to reach the destination.
Jagadish Hiremani, Member of National Commission of Safai Karamchari, Government of India was present at the event.
