At a meeting held to distribute welfare fund to nine children who were rescued from begging, the District Collector strictly warned people to abstain from forcing children into begging and child labour.
Welfare funds worth Rs.1.86 lakhs were distributed to nine children with Rs. 20,000 each.
The District Collector said that the Women and Child welfare department, social welfare and anti-child labour department are striving hard towards upliftment of the lives of the children those who belong from lower strata of the economy and abandoned by their parents.
He also alleged that despite all establishments especially hotels, bakeries and small establishments like workshops being warned to strictly abstain from employing child labour, the violation continues to be reported. "Hereon, any establishment for the second time, if found to have employed child labour (children less than 18 years of age) would be sealed by the officials of revenue department", the Collector warned.
While the law directs severe punishment for employing child labour or forcing them into begging, people should report such abuses against children and help abolish child labour, the Collector requested.
District Revenue Department Officer, Ramaduraimurugan, D. Vijaya Kumar, project director of National Child Labour Project and Divisional officers from revenue department and others took part.
