Yet again, CCMC's eviction drive at Jeeva Nagar was deferred by a week on Tuesday following the submissions from residents to give them one more weeks’ time.
As the CCMC officials announced a final deadline on Friday, a few residents pacified and decided to move to the housing units allotted to them in Keeranatham here by the TN Slum Clearnce board.
According to initial sources, one of the resident was packing things at their home to vacate their house, while doing so, two men got electrocuted and died on the spot.
The death of two people has brought shock waves among the residents.
Jeeva Nagar at Kavundampalayam had a total of 247 houses on encroached sites out of which 145 have already been evicted by the civic body. The remaining 100 houses are yet to be evicted.
