Coimbatore: Opposing the TNPSC's announcement on dropping the Tamil subject from the selection exams this year on, the advocates of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam (TPDK) petitioned the District Collector to urge the Government to withdraw the decision.

The TN Government in 2016 announced that candidates from any state could participate in the Commission exams conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC). To implement this decision, the TNPSC announced that the Tamil subject will be dropped from the exam modules. Various parties in the State denounced TNPSC's decision. The protesting advocates of TPDK wore banners that had names of other States.

Commenting on the decision, the TPDK General Secretary K Ramakrishnan said, "The Tamil Nadu State Government's verdict will cause difficulty in appointing Tamil people as Judges and Justice. Moreover, if people from other States are appointed as judges, then the documents of the local people's cases have to be translated to Hindi or other languages for better understanding, and this will create issues. Hence, the Government has to withdraw this announcement," he reiterated.
