The Nilgiris: Tense moments prevailed at the Nilgiris District Collectorate on Monday after about 200 residents and their children from Mahalingam Colony in Thuthurmattam in the Nilgiris laid siege to the District Collectorate.
The residents marched toward the Collectorate to meet the Collector in person after all their pleas to the officials fell on deaf ears. The residents alleged that their repeated pleas demanding basic amenities in their residential area has been neglected for a long period of time. They alleged that lack of basic amenities has been causing them immense distress and their pleas had been repeatedly ignored.

Hence, the irate residents staged a dharna at the Collectorate and demanded officials to arrange a meeting with the Collector immediately. They laid their children down on the floor and raised slogans.
When all efforts by the officials and the police to pacify the residents failed, the Tahsildhar and officials assured them that they would visit their area rightaway and initiate necessary steps to address the issues raised.
The three-hour dharna by the residents with children created a furore at the Nilgiris District Collectorate.
