Coimbatore: The Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme, S P Velumani participated in a function held at the TNAU Auditorium and granted a fund of Rs.14.11 crores that include cash and gold for the nuptials of 2,000 educated poor women.

Minister S P Velumani addressed the gathering saying, "Under the guidance of 'Amma' (Jayalalithaa), the Chief Minister is carrying out a golden regime that revives the lives of women. Low-income families are granted bicycles at subsidised rates, free mixies, grinders, fans, sheep, cattle, Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme and Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu Marriage Assistance Scheme. These schemes have caused a significant increase in the percentage of women's education and their economy has increased."
"Under the schemes such as the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Ninaivu marriage assistance scheme, Maniammaiyar Ninaivu marriage assistance scheme and Dr. Dharmambal Ammaiyar Ninaivu Widow Remarriage assistance scheme, 8 grams of gold and financial assistance are given to beneficiaries," he added.
Minister S P Velumani noted that according to the 2011 assembly election announcement made by Jayalalithaa, the aim of educating all women by providing marriage financial assistance for women was fulfilled in granting Rs. 25,000 and 4 g of gold to women whose educational qualification was 10th grade and Rs. 50,000 and 4 g of gold to graduates whose marriages were held after 17.05.2011.
"As this proposal received an excellent reception and contributed to women empowerment, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa revised the benefit of providing 4g of gold to 8g of gold for marriages that took place after 23.05.2016," said Minister S P Velumani. He also added that from 2011 to 2016, under the Marriage Assistance scheme, along with 4 g of gold, Rs.105.4 crores of financial assistance were granted to about 27,563 beneficiaries and from the year 2016 to 2019 around 7,331 beneficiaries were provided with financial assistance worth Rs. 46.12 crores.
In the ceremony held at the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University auditorium, 514 women beneficiaries who had studied 10th grade were provided with a financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each at a total estimate of Rs 1.28 crores and Rs. 50,000 each for 1,486 women wjo had graduated at a toal estimate of about Rs. 7.43 crores and a total of Rs. 5.39 crores with 8 g gold each for 2,000 beneficiaries with a total fund of Rs.14.1 crores provided.
Minister S P Velumani recorded that around 36,894 beneficiaries were benefited through this scheme with a total fund of Rs.164.08 crores. He also added that for the benefit of the third gender in the Coimbatore district and to help them progress in their lives, around Rs.9 lakh was provided to 65 transgender people in the city in the past two years for industrial training and self business.
The Vice President of Legislative Assembly, Pollachi V Jayaraman, the District Collector K Rajamani, M P A.K Selvaraj, Assembly Members P R G Arun Kumar, O K Chinnaraj, V C Aarukutty, Etimadai A Shanmugam, V P Kandhasamy, Kasthuri Vasu, District Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan, Revenue Divisional Officer (South) Dhanalingam, District Social Welfare Officer Thangamani and other Government officials took part in the event.
