Coimbatore : In an attempt to safeguard ancient Tamil palm writings, the T P Meenatchisundaram library at the Madurai Kamarajar University is digitising the available content.
The University library which has over 2000 ancient books and palm scripts is in the process of scanning available documents and uploading them on to computers to preserve them, in association with the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai. The documents include 300-year old books on Mathematics, Tamil grammar and Drama. Once uploaded, the books can be viewed as e-books in a dedicated website to be launched soon by Madurai Kamarajar University.
The varsity management has said that the e-content can be downloaded for future research and would be helpful to students who study Tamil major. It has also requested general public to have the old Tamil literature available with people, scanned.
