Minister S P Velumani flags off fleet of 62 new buses in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme, S P Velumani flagged off 62 new buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) allotted to the Ukkadam and Thondamuthur areas of the district, on Sunday.

Coimbatore: The Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programme, S P Velumani flagged off 62 new buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) allotted to the Ukkadam and Thondamuthur areas of the district, on Sunday. 

He was accompanied by the District Collector, K Rajamani, District Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan, TNSCTC Managing Director A Anbu Abraham and many others.

Addressing the gathering, Minister S P Velumani said, "The Tamil Nadu Government that works under the guidance of 'Amma' has provided new buses to not only Tamil Nadu but other states like Puducherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala to fulfil the needs of the people. Apart from introducing new buses, other facilities like new routes, new workstations and office buildings, restrooms with facilities for TNSTC workers, online pre-booking and so on have also been implemented.



The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has decided to provide 3000 new buses to the TNSTC in the year 2018-2019, at an estimated cost of Rs. 893 crores. As part of this initiative, 170 new buses were decided to be provided to the Coimbatore branch of TNSTC at an estimated cost of Rs. 50.6 crores. In the first stage, 30 new buses were flagged off on Juy 4, by the Chief Minister in Chennai.

In the second stage, 16 new buses to Coimbatore were flagged off by the TN CM from Chennai on August 14. Following this, 62 buses (22 suburban buses, 40 town buses) were flagged off on Sunday by Minister S P Velumani. Of these 62 buses, 14 buses were flagged off from the Thondamuthur Mariamman temple ground and 48 buses were flagged off from the Ukkadam bus stand.
