Coimbatore: The Minister for Municipal Administration and RDI, S P Velumani participated in a society baby shower function held in Kuniamuthur, Selvapuram, Thondamuthur and Poo Market areas of Coimbatore district. He distributed gifts to 360 pregnant women.
Coimbatore: The Minister for Municipal Administration and RDI, S P Velumani participated in a society baby shower function held in Kuniamuthur, Selvapuram, Thondamuthur and Poo Market areas of Coimbatore district. He distributed gifts to 360 pregnant women.
Minister S P Velumani was accompanied by the District Collector, K Rajamani, District Revenue Officer Ramadurai Murugan, Revenue Divisional Officer (South) Dhanalingam, District Planning Officer (ICDS) Meenakshi and other government officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Municipal Administration & RDI S P Velumani said, "AIADMK's stalwart Jayalalithaa fondly called as 'Amma' has implemented various plans for the welfare of women and girl children, and been a ladder for women's success. Everyone in the society should be healthy. As per the old saying in Tamil, "Noyatra Vazhve Kuraivatra Selvam" which means "Health is Wealth," only if girl children in the family are healthy will the family be at peace and happy. Keeping this in mind, we have continued to implement schemes regarding ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services)," he added.
The Minister added that a child's development begins once the fetus is formed. "It is not easy to improve the health and growth issues that arise in a child before it turns two. The schemes implemented by the Tamil Nadu Government has been proven to have improved the livelihood and status of the poor and the needy, keeping in mind that everyone should get everything," he stated.

Minister S P Velumani reiterated that five varieties of rice which have been distributed to the pregnant women indicate what they should be eating during pregnancy. Apart from this, awareness on post-delivery care, what and how to feed the infant, vaccinations and so one are also taught to the pregnant women. He also wished all the pregnant women at the event a safe and healthy delivery.
