Coimbatore: Swarga Foundation that is working to improve the lives of people with Multiple Sclerosis and other neuro-muscular disorders launched its fifth edition of the 'I’m Special Calendar series' for the year 2020 in Coimbatore today.

The event was inaugurated by Kaumaragurbara Swamigal, Head of Kaumaram Madalayam in the presence of Chief guests.
The Calendar that was jointly launched by District Collector K. Rajamani, Padmashri Awardee and Founder of Sankara Eye Foundation Dr. R.V. Ramani and Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan at Residency Hotel.
The calendar includes photos and lives of 12 couples from across the country, who have fought against disability to succeed in life.
“The have looked beyond themselves as disability-rights activists, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, professionals, sportspersons, academicians, beauty pageant winners and more. They have won accolades from the State and Central Governments, and also lead successful personal lives as a parent, spouse or sibling. They challenge the social norms and are the harbingers of change,” said T.S. Guruprasad, Trustee of the foundation.
Talking at the event, Dr. Ramani from Sankara Eye Foundation said that people with disabilities need effective counselling on their disability and abilities, and also encouragement to succeed in life.
“They also need to be infused with positive energy and reimbursed. I am happy that the Swarga Foundation has been able to do all of these,” he lauded.
He further requested that all buildings in Coimbatore should be differently-abled friendly.
Felicitating the event, District Collector Rajamani assured that the District Administration would always be ready in helping the differently-abled people .
“We are taking efforts to make life better for people with disabilities and people below the poverty line. If an action plan can be submitted to the district administration on what can be done for the welfare of people with disabilities, we would make sure no stone is unturned,” he assured.
Sumit Sharan, City Police Commissioner emphasised on the importance of coming together to share ideas and also giving back to society in any way possible.
Sharing the story and aim of the Swarga Foundation, J. Swarnalatha, the Managing Trustee of the Foundation explained the various projects of the foundation.
Earlier, the fashion show by the differently-abled people and those who are part of the calendar enthralled the spectators who were awe-struck by the confidence and smiles exhibited by them.
