Coimbatore: City Police, Friends of Police and Kalam Makkal Trust together joined hands to create awareness about wearing helmets among the motorists. The campaign was held in Anna Salai, here on Saturday to commemorate the 89th birth anniversary of Dr. Abdul Kalam.
In recent times, due to the changes in Motor Vehicle Act and relentless pursuit of Coimbatore Traffic Police, the number of motorists wearing helmets has increased by 60%, say reports.
In a bid to ensure that 100% of motorists wear helmet, several awareness campaigns are being conducted by the city traffic police.
In one such awareness initiative, Dr. Prateep Philip, DGP Civil Supplies (CID) who was the chief guest provided free helmets to motorists and emphasised on road safety
Many police officials and public participated in this event.
