Coimbatore: Police have arrested a father and son for allegedly defrauding Rs.24 lakh from the public by promising them to buy homes at the housing units built by the Slum Clearance Board.

Sakthivel is an auto-driver in VK Road in Peelamedu here. In 2018, Krishnan and his son Saravana Kumar from Selvapuram had approached Sakthivel and his friend Eshwaran and proposed to them the idea of buying houses in housing units built by Slum Clearance board.
The duo have also won the confidence of Sakthivel by saying that they are familiar with the officials in the Slum Clearance board and they could get them a house in one of the housing units at cheaper price.
They had also allegedly said that they have helped 23 other people to secure houses in the housing board in a similar way. The duo demanded Rs.1,36,000 from them to get the job done.
Lured by their offer, Sakthivel agreed and paid the amount in three instalments. Later, when the father and son duo failed to accomplish the task, Sakthivel registered a complaint at the Crime branch of the Police Commissioner office.
Upon the orders of Police Commissioner Sumit Saran and under the supervison of Deputy Commissioner Perumal, a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Soundararajan, Inspector Malliga, Sub-Inspector Jamuna and other police officers arrested the father and son duo who have allegedly cheated about Rs. 24 lakhs from more than 20 people in the pretext of securing him houses at the housing units by the Slum Clearance Board,.
