Coimbatore: In a major theft incident, 25 lakhs worth of diamond and gold jewellery has been stolen from a home in Saibaba Colony here on Friday.
Coimbatore: In a major theft incident, 25 lakhs worth of diamond and gold jewellery has been stolen from a home in Saibaba Colony here on Friday.
Narayanasamy (70) from Saibaba Colony Coimbatore is the Chairman of Ranganathan Industries in Thadagam Road and Ranganathar Engineering College. He along with his family where living in a duplex house in Saibaba Colony.
While the family stayed on the second floor of the house, they rarely used the first floor. However, he had kept all jewels and cash on the first floor in a safe locker.
On Friday, they were shocked to find that the door in the first floor was forced open and 25 lakhs of gold and diamond jewellery and 15,000 of cash had gone missing.
It is to be noted that the family knew about the theft only after two days. And, the theft had happened when all members of the family were present at the upper floor of the house.
Following this, Narayanasamy registered a complaint with the Saibaba Colony Police Station. The police reached and spot and collected the fingerprints and scanned the CCTV footage of the house.
Initial investigation says that the burglars had entered the house from the backyard where there are no CCTV cameras. Traces of the burglars jumping over into this compund from the neighbourhood was also confirmed by the police.
The police are investigating in the angle that the robbery must have been committed by someone familiar with the house.
