Coimbatore: The Makkal Sevai Maiam had organised a short film competition for college students on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi's birthday. Producer Gnanavel Raja and Director Kasthuri Raja distributed prizes at the event organised at SSVM School on Singanallur-Vellalore road, today.

Addressing the media, Producer Gnanavel Raja said, "It is unfortunate for 'Uttamavillan' movie to have faced this issue. The Producers Association is still in discussion about taking a call on this."
Director Kasthuri Raja began his speech on a patriotic note stating, "India is my nation, Indian is my name, Hindu is my identity and India is my permanent address. Prime Minister Modi is implementing many useful projects for the benefit of the country, and the manner of welcome he receives is compared to what MGR and Rajinikanth received from their fans." He noted that he was thrilled to watch PM Modi being welcomed with a red carpet, abroad, with the national anthem being played in the background.
"Only Prime Minister Modi has got the qualification to be a leader. He has taken India to a place where it cannot be shaken among world countries. After all these years of Independence, the country which has been exploited is experiencing the dawn, only now. India is saved and now is the turn for Tamil Nadu to be saved," opined Kasthuri Raja. He also felt that students should come forward into politics and that reforms will only be implemented when students can usher in change.
The PSG College of Arts and Science bagged the first place with a cash award of Rs. 50,000, a trophy and certificate in this short film competition, while Krishna College of Arts and Science secured second place along with Rs. 25,000, trophy and certificate and S.N.S. College bagged the third place along with Rs. 10,000, trophy and certificate.
The BJP State General Secretary, Vanathi Srinivasan, Producer Gnanavel Raja and Director Kasturi Raja awarded the winners. Perur Tamil College won the special award in the competition held while other prizes of Rs.1,33,000 were awarded for categories such as Best Director, Best Actor, Cinematographer and Film editor.
