Coimbatore : In a major gathering held in the city on Thursday, the textile associations unanimously decided to join hands to putforth their issues to the central government.
Coimbatore : In a major gathering held in the city on Thursday, the textile associations unanimously decided to join hands to putforth their issues to the central government.
Nearly 30 associations including The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) and Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) were part of the meeting in which CITI Chairman T.RajKumar addressed the press on the resolutions decided at the meet.
Speaking to the press the CITI Chairman apprised that the central government has asked the associations to present a single representation consisting of all their demands. "It would be easier to present the demands of all asociations together and what has brought us together, this evening. In the upcoming weeks, we would be meeting the Finance minister to submit our common demands, among which the priority would be regularisation of loans."
"We are also planning to conduct such meetings every three months," Rajkumar added.
"Three important areas of demand include Exports, Domestic production and GST. We have also requested the government for certain incentives to encourage textile and yarn exports. The associations are planning to meet the TN electricity minister to putforth certain demands", the CITI Chairman noted.
Briefing on the demands, he said "Our demands include reduction of GST for powerlooms, regularisation of loans, removal of cess tax by TN government and reconsidering solar power plants which can produce electricity above 1 megawatt."
The central government is taking every step to help exports, he added.
Clarifying about why Vanathi Srinivasan, BJP TN Secretary was present at the meeting, Mr. Rajkumar said "For a long time, Vanathi Srinivasan had been showing keen interest in helping the textile associations devise ways to address the issues. She is also helping the associations to present their demands to the central government. Apart from this, there is no other reason."
