Coimbatore: A transgender named Seematchi, a B.Tech graduate submitted a petition to the District Collector today, seeking protection saying that her parents had planned on honour killing, owing to her sex change.

Sathish Kumar, a B.Tech graduate from Vilankurichi in Coimbatore who had gone to Singapore, underwent a gender change operation and began to be known as a woman and called himself Seematchi. Family members did not accept the gender change though she had been sending them money, every month, from her earnings in Singapore.
Seematchi reportedly married Dhirendra Kumar from Uttarakhand in 2013 but after Dhirendra Kumar passed away, Seematchi returned to her ancestral home in Vilankurichi in Coimbatore. She alleged that her family members refused to accept her gender change and attacked her. Following this, Seematchi sought refuge in Ambedkar Nagar in Vilankurichi, an area where people from lower castes reside.
Enraged family members reportedly attacked Seematchi again after which she lodged a complaint against her parents in the Commissioner's office and also addressed the media at the District Collectorate premises. She accused her parents of chopping her hair and threatening to murder her.
"I have submitted a petition at the Commissioner's office seeking protection from my parents and relatives, and to be able to reside in my ancestral home. Though I am a graduate who worked and earned in Singapore, my parents refuse to accept me now because I chose to become a transgender.
As I do not have any support, I resorted to legal protection for my living. I request the District Collector to do the needful and also ensure my safety," said Seematchi.
