Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu President of the Volunteer Home Guard Welfare Association, Jesu Dhanapal announced that the Volunteer Home Guard Welfare Association, a conglomeration of all Home Guards across Tamil Nadu will function with its headquarters in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu President of the Volunteer Home Guard Welfare Association, Jesu Dhanapal announced that the Volunteer Home Guard Welfare Association, a conglomeration of all Home Guards across Tamil Nadu will function with its headquarters in Coimbatore.
"The main objective of the Association is to create awareness on road safety amongst public. The Association will encourage tree planting and disaster management by Home Guards. Like the Home Guard Association functioning in Andhra, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, the Home Guard Association of Tamil Nadu will function with its headquarters in Coimbatore," stated Jesu Dhanapal.
He further added that over 18,000 Home Guards are present across Tamil Nadu with over 500 working in Coimbatore. "Previously, Rs.150 was provided for serving for 26 days but now Rs. 560 is paid for five days of service. We are provided with uniforms just like the Police Department and we serve to ensure road safety, provide security during temple festivals and also as the VIP protection force," said Jesu Dhanapal.
He said about 40 members had enrolled in the Association thus far and they are expecting more members to join, shortly. The Volunteer Home Guard Welfare Association Secretary, Chandrasekar, Treasurer Pandiyan, Deputy Secretary Sukumar, and Marimuthu, a member of the Association were also present.
