Coimbatore: Even as the Thadagam soil miners have shifted their base partially from the Thadagam Valley to the fringe areas in Thondamuthur, a team of officials from Chennai are to investigate the reported violation in mining red soil in the area.

The announcement was made in a review meeting at Thadagam by Coimbatore by North Tahsildar Suresh Kumar who claimed that the District Administration possessed documents against the Brick Kiln chambers to prove that they had violated the law.
“One of the major complaints against the brick kiln chambers here is that they have excavated sand above the allowed limit. The team from Chennai will make a note of and actions will be taken. Stringent actions will be imposed, if illegal mining continues,” Suresh Kumar warned.
Talking at the meeting, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Periyanaickenpalayam, Mani said that the owners of the brick kiln chambers l are reportedly encouraging truck drivers to.operate vehicles without license. He further added that the owners should also avoid violating labour laws, as according to him cluster labour and child labour was being practised in the region.
However, the brick kiln chamber owners denied the allegations and claimed that they would give full support to any type of investigations. More than 200 chamber owners participated in the meeting.
It may be noted that small scale red soil mining has been uncovered near the forest fringes in Thondamuthur. Activists have called for immediate action on the issue.
