Coimbatore: Participants from over 40 schools were part of the three-day program on “Special care for Children affected by Drug Abuse for school Teachers and Counsellors” organised by Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Government of India in collaboration with PG & Research department of Social Work Hindusthan College of Arts and Science.

The program was inaugurated by Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City Mr. Sumit Sharan, IPS today at the college auditorium.
The three-day programme aims to save school children who these days have easy access to drugs and tobacco products from shops near the schools. Children are the important pillars of the society, hence it is pivotal to ensure their safety. As teachers and counselors are the best messengers in transmitting the desired message to the students, they had been selected as the target group for the training program.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner of Police who was the chief guest there light on the prevailing drug rate among children and emphasized on the need to conduct such training programs, a release noted.
Chairman of the Institution, T S R Khannaiyann, Principal Dr. A Ponnusamy, Head of the Social work department, Dr. M. Punitha and the organising team thanked the Central Government for initiating such an effort to combat drug abuse.
