Coimbatore : The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department's Food Safety officer, V Kamaraj arrested Bhuvaneswaran (50) for distributing adulterated tea powder hid in his two-wheeler to tea shops and bakeries on Podanur Road. 12 kg of adulterated tea was seized from him and he was produced before K Tamilselvan, the Designated Food Safety Officer.
Upon investigation, Bhuvaneshwaran was found to be a resident of Balaji Layout, Rajiv Gandhi Road in Ganapathy. Following this, the Food Safety Officer of Ganapathy, M S Murugesan raided his home and seized 440 kg of adulterated tea powder worth Rs.90,000. The samples of the adulterated tea powder have been sent for lab testing. Bhuvaneshwaran will be booked under FSSAI 2006 act and strict punishment is expected to be meted out.
K Tamilselvan, Designated Food Safety Officer said, "Continous watch is on to find the supply of adulterated tea, milk, ghee, green peas, honey, jaggery, pulses and excessive coloured foods. Strict action will be taken against them and those in possession and distribution of banned tobacco products too. Any complaints on food safety and sale of banned tobacco products can be reported to the 9444042322 WhatsApp number," he added.
