With thousands of tourists thronging Ooty every day, taxis are available at various tourist spots across the district, including Doddabetta, Botanical Gardens and Pykara. Many locals earn their livelihood operating taxi services. But with the appearance of fake tour guides who lure tourists to travel in vans and buses arranged by big travel agencies for commission, the business of local taxi drivers have taken a beating.
Hence, taxi drivers petitioned the administration to take action against these fake tourist guides and also warned that a protest would be staged if there is no immediate action taken to curb the menace.
