Coimbatore : The contract conservancy workers of Mettupalayam Municipality petitioned the District Collector K.Rajamani to increase their daily wages to Rs.400 from the existing Rs.240.
The petitioners stated that about 151 sanitary workers are working on a contract basis in the Mettupalayam Municipality and the wages have not been hiked in the past ten years.
The petitioners demanded a minimum wage of Rs 400 against the current wage of Rs 190 for women and Rs 240 for men workers.
They also appealed to the District Collector to take expeditious action to ensure the implementation of ESI and PF benefits for them.
