Coimbatore : "Owing to water scarcity in summer season, the Coimbatore Corporation temporarily stopped approving new water connections. However, with monsoons filling up all our major water bodies, the water connection has been resumed. So, people can start applying for new water connections from Monday onwards", said Minister S. P. Velumani here on Sunday.

The Minister spoke to the media on the sidelines of the event organised to distribute safety gears to permanent sanitary workers of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC).
The Minister apprised that for new water connections the residents can apply through online and necessary arrangements have been made for swift connection and redressal. While others, can apply in person at Corporation zonal offices, Municipal offices and Village Panchayat offices.
He also warned that those who cause damage to roads during laying of pipelines for new water connections will have to face water disconnection.
When questioned on the 24x7 water supply scheme to be implemented by Suez, Minister S.P. Velumani revealed that Suez was brought during the last DMK regime. And, as the scheme was useful and good, the AIADMK government choose to proceed with it.
Despite clarifying rumours pertaining to Suez, people still fear if the private company would hike charges and take control over the tariffs. "Under no circumstance, people need to panic about the issue, as Suez is vested only with the job of water distribution. They cannot have any control of fixing tariffs. With regard to tariffs and collection, the CCMC will have full control, as always", reitrated the Minister.
