Industrial associations and frequent flyers from Coimbatore International airport have always raised concerns about the lack of International connectivity and have been making representations to the Aviation Ministry and Airline companies to improve the air services in the city.

Renewing their appeal, the Kongu Global Forum along with Codissia, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Coimbatore Chapter) and SIEMA have made a representation Ashwani Lohani, CMD, Air India for the introduction morning flight to New Delhi for which they hope to get a positive reply.

Vanitha Mohan said “KGF has been making continuous representations to Air India for an early morning flight to Delhi. Once the service comes into operation, it would be helpful for the business travellers to reach Terminal 3 of New Delhi airport and can walk into the international lounge without much hassle”

“Introduction of the mooring flight would connect 10 destinations in Europe and two in Australia which would benefit business travellers to a large extent/ currently the Red Eye flight which leaves Coimbatore airport at around 1.30 a.m. will reach New Delhi early morning. This flight is useful for passengers flying to the U.S and its running full.”

“Based on this merit, we made a representation to Air India and we are hopeful that AI would give us a flight in the winter allotment" Vanitha Mohan said

Frequent flyers also echoed the view of KGF by saying "After three years of struggle we now have a good connection from Coimbatore to USA and Japan. From Coimbatore, the passengers fly AI 539 to Delhi and take international flights. On Arrival from various destinations in USA to Delhi the passengers use AI547 to Coimbatore. Real convenient timings and easy movement of baggage are facilitated.

“Similarly we are asking for an easy connection to Europe,” said Sathish, a frequent International traveller.

Coimbatore International airport has a huge potential for Cargo transportation and the associations have also appraised Ashwani Lohani about the combined cargo potential of Coimbatore region which includes Tirupur, Namakkal and Karur.
