The Nilgiris : In an unfortunate incident, an Indian Gaur fell died after falling into a pit dug for septic tank in Milithan Village near Kothagiri on Sunday.
The residents of the village have alleged that the carelessness of the forest department officials in arriving to the spot for rescue had caused the death of the animal.
"For over an hour the Gaur was suffering in pain inside the pit. Even after an hour none turned up for rescue, so we tried reaching them again. When contacted the forest officials said that the area false under the Kattabedu jurisdiction and hence they would be able to help out", a resident informed.
After undergoing pain and dehydration, the Gaur succumbed. The residents jointly urged that the blatant recklessness of the forest department has led to the death of the animal.
