All Devangar Caste Conference passes resolution to include the community in MBC category

Coimbatore : The All Devangar Social Welfare Conference was organised today at the Codissia grounds which was presided over by Dayanandapuri Swamigal.

Coimbatore : The All Devangar Social Welfare Conference was organised today at the Codissia grounds which was presided over by Dayanandapuri Swamigal.



Ministers S.P Velumani and O.S Manian participated as special guests in the conference.

At the conference, as many as 18 resolutions were passed including the issuance of a special identity card for all weavers by the State and Central Government, including Devangar community in the most backward classes category, and the provision of free electricity to the weavers living in Tamil Nadu and the changing the name the Ribbon Palace in honour of Sir Pitti Thyagarajar.



Addressing the conference, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles, O.S Manian said that Minister S.P Velumani would meet the demands of the weavers and added that the Government would always extend its support to the textile workers.

He then assured that the resolutions taken in the conference would be taken to the notice of the Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy

The Government has made various concessions to the weavers and will extend a 10% wage in the current fiscal and added that the Government had taken measures for the betterment of weavers.

Addressing the conference, Minister for Municipal Administration S.P Velumani said that the linen weaving constitutes about 15% of the textile production and that linen plays a vital role in the Indian economy.

Minister S.P Velumani said that the handloom minister would take all steps to bring all issues that the weavers are facing to the attention of the Centre and added that the state government is taking various measures for the growth of the weavers.

Over 30,000 Devanga community members hailing from different towns and cities took part in the conference.
