Tirupur: Police arrested a man in Tirupur for threatening a young woman and extorting money.
The young woman received a obscene message on her whatsapp from an unknown number. In the message, the man revealed that he allegedly possessed a pornographic image of the woman and demanded Rs. 5 lakh and threatened to release on the internet.
The woman who did not oblige to the threat instead registered a complaint at the police commissioner office here on Saturday.
The police with the help of the phone number traced the man and identified him as Naresh (27) from Salem. Upon investigation, Naresh revealed that he blackmailed the girl by taking her number from a social media.
The man confessed to the crime stating that he planned to extort money for his upcoming marriage. Later, the police registered a case and arrested him.
