Coimbatore: The city police arrested a North Indian couple in Annur area for selling cannabis from their Paan shop.
Aimed at curbing the increasing use of cannabis in school children and youth, the city police are strictly monitoring the cannabis usage and are cracking down on the peddlers of cannabis.
Based on the orders of Superintendent of Police Sujith Kumar, the police are actively monitoring gangs selling cannabis targeting the college students in various areas including Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Valparai, Annur and Karumathampatti.
In the meanwhile, police have received information that North Indians are increasingly using cannabis, and a few of them have formed gangs to sell and peddle cannabis to various locations in the city
Subsequently, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Balamurugan, while on a routine vehicle check cornered Akshay Das and 2 kg of cannabis was seized from his motorbike.
Upon investigation, it was found out that Akshay Das resides in Ganeshauram, Masakkavundampalayam near Annur with his wife and he routinely buys cannabis in wholesale and sells it via his Paan shop utilizing the services of his wife.
Annur police arrested Akshay Das and his wife Bijay Lakshmi Das and seized 24 kg of cannabis are an investigating.
