Coimbatore: Traffic was halted for almost an hour on Mettupalayam - Annur road on Saturday, as residents demonstrated a road roko against the Municipal Administration for irregular water supply.
Coimbatore: Traffic was halted for almost an hour on Mettupalayam - Annur road on Saturday, as residents demonstrated a road roko against the Municipal Administration for irregular water supply.
Bhavani is the perennial source of water for Mettupalayam (MTP) and the neighbouring villages. The residents of all 33 wards in MTP are dependent on drinking water from the Bhavani river.
In this scenario, the residents allege that irregular supply of drinking water has become a consistent problem in MTP, recently. Especially, the residents in Nadur, Mahadevapuram, Maninagar point that it's been 20 days since drinking water was supplied to their area.
"In spite of Bhavani overflowing, the Municipality has failed to regularise the delay in water supply", they lamented.
As officials turned deaf ear to their problem, the residents took to the road, today and staged a demonstration to garner the attention of the municipality officials. The residents staged an hour-long protest on the Annur - MTP main road and raised slogans against their issues and Municipality.
Owing to traffic congestion, the MTP police and the municipal authorities rushed to the spot and pacified the irked residents to resolve the issue at the earliest. Later, the protestors withdrew the protest and dispersed.
