Coimbatore : The annual workshop of the All India Coordinated Research Project in Agroforestry was held at the Forest College and Research Institute in Mettupalayam. Agro scientists and professors from various states participated in the event.

The workshop was chaired by Chancellor Parthiban of Forest College and Research Institute in Mettupalayam and was attended by more than 50 scientists from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab, Andaman and Delhi.
The seminar was held on the development of agroforestry to meet the needs of industries without destroying forests and by promoting planting of trees in barren lands. A discussion to find out about the types of trees that can be grown using less water, such as 'Malai Vembu' and have them spread across India, thereby creating value addition for farmers and increasing their profits was also initiated at the seminar.
Also, the books written by Agricultural Scientists who attended the seminar were published by Coimbatore TNAU Vice Chancellor Dr. N Kumar. During the event, there was an exhibition of value-added items made from Malai Vembu trees which were discovered by research professors of the Mettupalayam Forest College and Research Institute.
