Coimbatore : In a shocking case, a 16-year old minor, the daughter of Senniappan from Ammankulam was kidnapped and forced into child marriage by a notorious repeat offender named Jose alias Joshua who is reportedly a painter by profession in Erimedu.

Senniappan registered a missing complaint with D1 Ramanathapuram Police Station on August 8 that his daughter had gone missing. The girl surrendered at the police station on August 12 and revealed shocking details of how she had been kidnapped, forced into marriage and sexually abused by Jose.

She said that he had threatened her into a relationship with him by buying her a new sim card to talk to her over the phone. When the girl's mother found out and warned the girl, Jose forced the girl to elope with him. Owing to her refusal to do so, Jose reportedly kidnapped her on August 8 and forced her into marriage. She also alleged that she had been sexually abused, multiple times.

Following this, the police registered a case against Jose under the POCSO Act and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006. The Women's Police Station Inspector arrested Joshua on August 22 and produced him in Court.

Police Commissioner Sumit Saran, decided to imprison Jose at the Central Jail under the Goondas Act, since Jose had several cases of crime registered against him since 2005. The cases included robbery in 2008, attempt to murder in 2013 and murder in 2014. It is to be noted that this is the first time in Coimbatore that an accused under the POCSO Act has been jailed under the Goondas Act.
