Coimbatore: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Balaji Saravanan, used his special powers to remand a convict involved in serial crimes in jail, in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Balaji Saravanan, used his special powers to remand a convict involved in serial crimes in jail, in Coimbatore.
Gowtham alias Karuppu Gowtham (25), a resident of Rathnapuri who had been involved in a series of crimes had been booked under various cases in different police stations. He was produced before the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Executive Magistrate on April 6, 2010 under Section 107, Code of Criminal Procedure. He was then asked to sign a written affidavit stating that he would not commit any crime for a year. But Gowtham was arrested again by the Rathnapuri police on September 5.
Following the arrest, Gowtham was released out of jail on September 17. The Rathnapuri police produced Gowtham in front of the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Law and Order on September 19 for violating the written affidavit he had signed. Balaji Saravanan ordered that Gowtham be remanded in prison for 200 days from yesterday till April 5, 2020 for violating the pledge he had signed. Gowtham is now behind bars in Coimbatore Central Prison.
It is noteworthy that the City Police Department arrests criminals under Section 107, Code of Criminal Procedure to halt perpetrators of crimes in the city.
