Coimbatore : In a novel initiative to create awareness on implementation of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) structures within the Corporation limits, the CCMC has ideated to form a human chain involving students, NGOs and general public.
Coimbatore : In a novel initiative to create awareness on implementation of Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) structures within the Corporation limits, the CCMC has ideated to form a human chain involving students, NGOs and general public.
Speaking on this Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar said, "CCMC is planning to attempt guinness record by forming the longest human chain to spread awareness about Rain water harvesting by involving students, NGOs and public.”
Elaborating on other measures undertaken by CCMC towards RWH, the Commissioner apprised that "Special teams have been designated with the task of implementation of RWH structures across the city. A private RWH consultant has been roped in the project to train our corporation staff."
"Last week, Engineers from CCMC were exposed to the training and now, the field staff are undergoing training. The special teams assigned with the task will visit residences, hold real time assesments and educate the residents on RWH accordingly", he noted.
He also added that based on the assessment, the teams will recommend three RWH models to the residences, out of which they could chose one model.
"CCMC has also plans of training masons and plumbers on RWH structures, so that public upon request can make use of them. Whatsoever, installing RWH structure at every residence is no more an option but mandatory", the Commissioner added.
Briefing on implementation of RWH structures at government and corporation buildings, the CCMC Commissioner said, “About 600 government buildings are within Corporation limits. Depending on the budget, we are planning to create 900 injection points in these buildings. However, RWH structures has to be compulsorily created in all government buildings and a communique on the same has been forwarded to all government buildings in the district."
He also stressed that especially commercial buildings like hotels, malls, commercial buildings and hospitals will have to create excellent RWH structures, on a mandatory basis.
According to the Commissioner, CCMC is gearing up for 100% implementation of RWH and is well ahead compared to other districts and the civic bodies.
