Researcher Soundararajan Kumarasamy, a resident of Vellakovil in Tirupur had invented an automotive engine called the Super Sonic Hydrogen Engine that does not cause environmental pollution and is a substitute for petrol and diesel. The Indian Government approved his invention and it was also welcomed by Japan. Subsequently, the official manufacture of the engine is being carried out in Japan.

The researcher had earlier been threatened with murder in connection with the invention in 2009 from Lakshar-e-Taiba. The NIA investigated the matter after he had complained of the threat letter. Subsequently, as recent as September 14, Soundararajan received an anonymous letter that he should not continue this invention in any of the countries and will be murdered if he failed to heed the threat.
