Coimbatore : Subbulakshmi Jagadesan, the DMK Deputy General Secretary and Karthik, the MLA of Singanallur constituency visited five executives of the Farmers Union Federation who are imprisoned in the Coimbatore Central Prison as a show of support to them.

The police held Advocate Easan, P R Shanmugam, Muthu Viswanathan, Parthasarathy and Thangamuthu who are executives of the Farmers Union Federation for staging a protest against officers from power grid who were surveying the land. All five of them were locked up at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Addressing the media, Subbulakshmi Jagadesan stated that the Central Government should not implement the plan of setting up HT lines without consulting farmers. "Even when compensation is still not provided for the HT lines implemented in the farmlands earlier, it is doubtful if payment will be given for the new ones. DMK will continue to raise a voice against the plans and projects that affect farmers in any way and we will urge concerned authorities to take the HT lines through tunnels," she added.
