Coimbatore : In the one-day “for the kids and by the kids” science conference, kids are to go through a series of brainstorming sessions to understand science better in their quest to become scientists.
From the beauty of wildlife art to the emotions involved in conservation science, all the way up to the complexities of astrophysics and the essentialities of data science, science in all its versatility is all set to fascinate about 700 kids this Sunday, as 'SCICON (Science Conference) 2019', kick-starts at the Hindustan College of Arts and Science in the city.

Jointly organised by the Mango Education and Prezantim Creative Services, the one-day conclave will host student interaction with scientists from across the country on various topics relevant to the present context.
Under the title, 'Let’s talk Science,' various topics are to be discussed at the conclave, including Solar Astronomy, Sustainable Living, Climate Science, Engineering and Technology, Wildlife Conservation, Wildlife Art, Astro Physics, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Molecular Biology.
“Around 11 scientists from places including Coimbatore, Pune, Bengaluru and Palakkad will be talking about their respective fields. Followed by the talk, students will have time to interact with the speakers which is the highlight of the event,” said R. Obuli Chandran, the Co-Founder of Mango Education.

Obuli Chandran who also serves as the Science Educator and Communicator at Mango Education added that the organisation had previously conducted science talks under the title 'Kids Ask Scientist' (KAS), where kids and scientists interact on important science topics.
“We have hosted up to 150 participants thus far and this is the first time we have enlargened our territory and are looking to host up to 700 kids. We have received participations from in and around Coimbatore, Chennai and Kerala,” informed Chandran.
“The idea of the conference is to promote a scientific temper, make science more accessible to a larger crowd and make Coimbatore a scientifically literate society. Today’s society is facing modern problems that demand scientific solutions. If kids are not trained in this aspect, it would be difficult for them to handle problems, in the future,” added Obuli.
Mango Education has been active in Coimbatore for the past three and a half years in an aim to offer courses for kids in science and technology, and to also create a generation of scientists.

“The value addition of the conference is that it is totally run by the kids from the Mango Astronomy Club of Mango Education. They will coordinate the whole event,” Obuli informed.

Experts including Sanjay Molur, Scientist and Founder of the Journal of Threatened Taxa, Ananya Rao, Climate Researcher, Manjari Bagchi, Astrophysicist, Ebenezer Chellasamy, Solar Astronomer and Harsh Velacha, Founder of GAIA Grid will interact with the children on the day.
Kids between the age of 7 and 15 can participate in the conference. Those who wish to participate can register
