The Nilgiris: Railway employees in Nilgiris staged a demonstration today in front of the Ooty-Coonoor railway workshop, raising slogans that denounced the Central Government's decision to privatise the railway sector. The demonstrations are expected to continue till the 19th of this month.

They protested against various policies, including the privatization of certain trains in the railway industry, investment of pension funds in the stock market and condemning the rule to force railway workers who have been working for 30 years to retire voluntarily. The demonstration was led by the SRMU President, John Xavier on behalf of SRMU and ARF. Over 100 workshop employees participated in the protest.
