Coimbatore : The cadres of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) petitioned the District Collector, K Rajamani, demanding action against those involved in red sand mining for brick kilns in areas near Thadagam in Coimbatore.
The petition stated that red sand was being mined illegally from 50 to 150 feet deep from the ground for brick kilns and that there were many brick kilns operating without permission in the area.
Red sand mining from areas near the forest regions has affected wildlife too. The brick kilns have also served to pollute the environment further. The NTK cadres emphasized strict action against those illegally operating brick kilns and also on red sand miners who violate rules and induge in sand smuggling.
