The Nilgiris district administration had banned cold drinks plastic bottles and water bottles in various places across the Nilgiris district, since September 1, 2019. Since then, usage of plastics has been banned in the district.
With the plastic shredder gaining popularity at the Botanical Garden, the District Collector, Innocent Divya inatheugurated the installation of another plastic shredder at the Ooty bus stand, today.
Tourists who carry plastic water bottles or cold drink bottles have been instructed to insert used plastic bottles into the machine which will grind the used plastic into fertlizers and plant wastes that can be used as manure for plants in gardens.
