TN schools directed to conduct classes on ‘Gandhian thought and philosophy’ during Quarterly vacation

The Directorate of School Education has directed all the schools in Tamilnadu to conduct classes and events on ‘Gandhian thoughts and philosophy’ during the quarterly vacation which falls between September 22 to October 2.

The Directorate of School Education has directed all the schools in Tamilnadu to conduct classes and events on ‘Gandhian thoughts and philosophy’ during the quarterly vacation which falls between September 22 to October 2.

A circular to this effect has been sent to all Chief Educational officers in each district.

“ The nine days of vacation would be utilized for imparting Gandhian thought and philosophy and to conduct various events and competitions in memory of the Father of the nation on his 150th anniversary which is being celebrated all over the country” the circular said.

The Union Ministry of Human Resources development had instructed the Tamilnadu Government to conduct such classes and organize debate, essay and drawing competitions in memory of the Father of the nation to inculcate Gandhian ideals in school students.

The students would be formally notified of the programmes to be held in the school by sending emails from the respective schools.

However, Educationist Nedunchezhian raised doubt about the viability of such an arrangement to convert the quarterly vacation to conduct such events as students and teacher would be robbed of the necessary break to rejuvenate themselves.

“The students would be robbed of their vacation if such event is organised and attendance are made mandatory” he said It is said the school education department is also mulling to cancel the vacation itself and host the events to propagate Gandhian ideals.
