The newly renovated children's park at Gandhi Park located at the junction of Subramaniam and Sundaram street was declared open for public use on Sunday.
The upgraded facility was formally inaugurated by Minister S.P. Velumani in the presence of District Collector, K. Rajamani and Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer, Sravan Kumar on Sunday.
In April 2018, the Corporation park which is called as Gandhi Park at Ward no 24 (West zone) got a facelift, with renovated swimming pool. However, following public request to introduce additional facilities and refurbish the existing children's play area, a fund of Rs.3.25 crore was allotted.
The newly renovated park now has an open amphitheatre to hold events and functions.
Addressing at the inaugural event, the Minister said the park has been renovated with lot of new facilities like widened walking tracks, fountains, play items in children's play area, benches, lighting, plants, toilet facilities, enhanced security and importantly an amphitheatre to host events.
He also noted that the swimming pool at the park has been well maintained by the Corporation, owing to which hundreds of fitness enthusiasts and children rejoice at the pool over the weekend.
He noted that out of the Rs. 3.25 crore fund, around Rs. 3.175 crore has been alloted from the Corporation fund and the remaining from the MLA fund.
The Minister requested the public to use the facility and benefit.
