Coimbatore: Following the outrage created by the indiscriminate erection of flex banners which resulted in the death of 22-year-old techie Subasri, a couple of days back in Chennai, the drive against illegal banners have been expedited all over the state.

According to the City corporation officials, 3697 flex banners have been removed across the city by Corporation employees in the last three months and the work is continuing.
"Flex banners in important highways and roads including Avinashi road, Sathyamangalam Road, Trichy Road, Mettupalayam Road, Pollachi Road, Palakkad Road, Perur road, Kamarajar road, NSR road, Bharathi park road, Thadagam road, Saravanampatti, Thudiyalur Road, Kalapatty road, Nanjappa road and banners in the road junctions have been removed" a communique issued by the Corporation said.
"As per the orders by the Corporation Commissioner on September 14, a special drive was conducted in which several banners were removed from all the five zones in the city, which included 477 banner in North zone, 496 banners in East zone, 504 banners in West zone, 105 banners in Central zone and 27 banners in South zone".
“For the period starting from June 1 to September 14, a total of 5306 banners which were erected placed without permission have been removed out of which 75 banners were removed based on the complaint registered with the police and as many as 20 FIRs have been filed in this respect” the communique said.
A strict warning has also been issued against the offenders who have scant respect for law and erect banners in an indiscriminate manner all over the city.
