The employees of a garment factory functioning inside SIDCO Industrial estate on Tirupur - Perumanallur road alerted the fire and rescue department, after they noticed fumes from the factory.
The fire personnel fought hard for more than an hour and doused the fire from spreading to nearby industries. Reports also claim that several lakh worth of garments which were due to be exported were destroyed in the accident.
The police have registered a case and the investigations are on.
