Man held for cheating and forgery near Kavundampalayam

Coimbatore : City Crime Branch Police arrested a man on charges of forgery in which he had defrauded a landlord and his family to an amount of Rs 50 lakhs by preparing a forged document with a motive to cheat them.

Kalaivani (22), daughter of Shanmugam lives in Kovilmedu near Coimbatore -Thadagam road.

The family members own a commercial building in Velandipalayam where Azhagusamy (43) a resident of Kavundampalayam had been running a retail departmental store from 2016. Meanwhile, Shanmugam had passed away on September 2017, and since then Azhagusamy had not paid the rent.

When Shanmugam daughter Kalaivani confronted Azhagusamy to pay the rental dues, the latter had allegedly threatened to kill her. Azhagusamy had also claimed that he had signed a lease agreement for Rs. 11 lakhs with her deceased father and demanded to return the money. He also threatened to sell the building for Rs.20 lakhs.

Meanwhile, Kalaivani had filed a complaint in the City Police Commissioner's office about the forgery attempt by Azhagusamy and his wife Usha in which they had prepared forged documents supporting his claim.

Based on the orders of Sumit Sharan, Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Perumal, the city crime branch police headed by Sub Inspector Jamuna filed a case under various sections including fraud, intimidation and forgery.

Following this, the Police arrested Azhagusamy and remanded in judicial custody.
