"Unlike many other places in the world, Tamil Nadu has been practising agriculture for the past 12,000 years. Many generations have lived prosperous lives, and to be more precise, they were consistent in maintaining the fertility of the soil resources. But unfortunately, the last two generations have saused soil resources to become infertile. We have contributed to the absence of nutrition in the soil.
As a result, around 42 percent of farmlands have turned infertile. As a test, instead of adding salt to the food, eat salt as a one-time meal. Then you will understand how much hazardous it is for our health. The same applies to our soil as well. Without sprinkling leaves, cow dung and other natural minerals, if we keep on sprinkling salt and artificial minerals, how will the soil be fertile? Only if the soil is nutritious, the food crops grown there will be nutritious," opined Sadhguru.
"Many of the Agricultural Association Presidents have gathered for the meeting. Together, we should raise our voices to highlight the needs of agriculturalists to the Government. Only if every one of us raises our voice together, we can save our soil," he concluded.
Sadhguru who is also on a mission to restore the Cauvery river through his project 'Cauvery Calling,' is on a road trip from Thalai Cauvery to Thiruvarur. He reached Tamil Nadu from Karnataka on September 11 and visited the farm belonging to Senthil, a pioneer tree crop farmer in Mevani Village, Gopichettipalayam. Following his arrival, the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Association President Chellamuthu and 100 other Agricultural Association Presidents took part in the event held there.
Various farmers who benefited from the Isha Agroforestry initiatives shared their success stories. Sadhguru later took part in an event held at the Excel College. Sadhguru's two-wheeler road trip will cover Erode, Trichy, Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Puducherry and will reach Chennai on September 15. The penultimate program will be held in Coimbatore on September 17.
