Tirupur: A minibus that was plying near Nalla Kavundampalayam, Madhapur overturned this morning, leaving 20 passengers injured.

Irate public satged a road roko protesting against the inebriated driver of the minibus. The minibus had more than 30 passengers and was headed toward Palladam.
The accident occured when the driver of the Ganapathy minibus veered onto the mud road, off the main road, to pave way for another minibus from Palladam which was headed toward Thottampatti. The road was not wide enough for two vehicles to ply at the same time. Even as the minibus overturned, people in the area rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of passengers. They had to smash the glass windows of the minibus to rescue the passengers who were trapped in the bus.
Meanwhile, the Palladam police arrived at the scene of the accident and began an investigation. The public reported that the driver of the minibus was often inebriated and yet driving the vehicle. They also staged a road roko demanding appropriate action to be immediately initiated against the minibus driver and conductor Prabhakaran. The police then held the driver and the conductor for further investigation.

Since the accident and the ensuing road roko was creating a furore in the region, the police intervened and negotiated with the public to disperse them.
