The NMR is operated from Mettupalayam to Ooty daily. Winding through the dense forest amidst the hills, this world-class mountain train has attracted global tourists and continue to do so.
The Southern Railway has modernized the toy Nilgiris Mountain Railway to promote mountain railway tourism and new railway coaches from ICF factory in Perambur are being procured to overhaul the NMR.
With a total of 15 train coaches already dispatched four months ago, four more arrived today. Wrought in Iron and glass these trendy coaches would replace the old ones. These boxes were brought to Mettupalayam railway station by a special goods train.
A giant crane named Rajali was brought from the Trichy Ponmalai Railway workshop and the new train compartments were unloaded today in the presence of Mettupalayam Railway Officials.
Railway Officials inspected the compartments which unloaded on the rail tracks.
The Railway Administration has said that these compartments will be affixed to the mountain train and a test run will be conducted after which it will be thrown open for public utility.
