Coimbatore : An ambulance which was ferrying a patient from Vadavalli was diverted and asked to take circuitous route due to a TNSTC bus breakdown in P.N Pudur area which caused undue delay in arrival of the patient in the hospital, due to the traffic chaos and congestion which persisted in the area.

Coimbatore city has been witnessing traffic congestion day in and day out, which has, in turn, made commuting a day to day problem. The construction of new bridges in various parts of the city has added to the fuel to the fire.
In this scenario, the frequent breakdown of the TNTSC buses plying in the city roads has only added woe to the existing problem of clogged roads and delayed commutes.
In the recent incident, a TNSTC bus plying from Gandhipuram to Marudhamalai (TN 38 N 1969) had broken down near Cemetery in P.N Pudur, which resulted in traffic congestion in the area which persisted for more than two hours.
Even though the city denizens tried their best to push the bus and park in the periphery, they were not successful in doing so.
This incident resulted in traffic chaos for over 2 km in the road stretch making life miserable for the road user.
Caught in the melee was an ambulance transporting a patient from Vadavalli to a nearby hospital which was also forced to take a circuitous route due to the breakdown of the bus.
The repairmen and mechanics from TNSTC depot who arrived late took about two hours to repair the rickety bus and only then traffic resumed to normal conditions.
According to the TNSTC employees, the aged fleet of buses are the sole reason for the frequent break downs happened frequently.
“Lack of maintenance and the ageing fleet has contributed to the frequent break downs. Moreover, the maintenance of the old buses is much to be desired “they complained.
